Virginia is a pediatric rheumatologist with ample experience in Translational Research and a focus on Human Autoimmunity and the Director of the Center for Inflammation and Genomics at BIIR. Our pioneer genomic studies identified the role of Dendritic cells and Interferon in SLE, and of cytokines such as IL1 in children with Systemic onset Juvenile Arthritis, which has led to successful therapeutic interventions in this disease. We are committed to applying genomic approaches to the identification of biomarkers and to understanding basic events leading to human immune-mediated diseases in order to indentify better therapeutic targets.
